Historical Fashion Designing Icons
It is often a curiosity of fashion designing students who were some of the major clothing and accessory icons of the past. This is a short overview of each which you should find very interesting.
It will enlighten you whether you need to learn this for your design history class or whether you are learning this for fun. It always makes for interesting conversation at the very least.
Christian Dior-This major fashion icon began to make his mark in the late 1940s. By the mid-1950s his name was known throughout the world. He was famous for the A-line skirt design as well as the H and Y-line patterns used to create skirts even today.
He unfortunately passed away suddenly in the year 1957 and today his Dior fashion line is still found in stores. Very few creators of original clothing and accessories could match his works of art that people wear today.
Yves Saint Laurent-He is a French fashion designer who was born in 1936. His career especially took off while working under Christian Dior. Then in the early 1960s collaborated with Pierre Berge and started his own label and new chain of boutiques.
He was considered a more “avant-garde” person if you will. He pushed the fashion designing limits of his time and that is one of the reasons why there are so many fine original modern clothing designs today.
He was the first haute couture designer to have his fashion show airing live on the Internet. That presentation took place in 1996. This famous designer lived until age 71 and died on June 1, 2008.
Giorgio Armani-This man started out working in a fashion house called Nino Cerruti. This was in the 1960s and 1970s, and after this was when he started his new label. The first line of clothing and accessories he designed was menswear. He accomplished this along with Sergio Galeotti.
Soon after that, he then started a women’s clothing line. It was from this humble beginning that the Giorgio Armani Corporation was born. In 2001 this company was featured in Forbes, and Giorgio Armani was coined the most successful Italian designer.
As of 2007 he had plans to sell his trademark. The Giorgio Armani line continues to expand. This name now markets sunglasses, neckties, watches, and more.
Of course, one of the signature accessory items is the rhinestone vintage sunglasses which everyone seems to love. Armani was born in 1934. He is now 76 years old.
This is only a very short example of the famous people who have shaped fashion designing history. They are some of the finest modern designers that will be remembered for centuries.
