Fashion Designing Trends: Mid-2000s to Present

With the increased use of multimedia and computer programs fashion designing has become a whole new art. This has brought on new opportunities and new changes.

The Shift

By the mid-2000s women’s fashion became increasingly more feminine. By the mid-2000s women were still wearing hints of hippie and bohemian styles but they were seen more in the middle to upper class women.

Suddenly this style of clothing was tailored in a way that was more acceptable. It has become part of the mainstream versus the counter culture, mainly by the materials and techniques used in fashion designing.

Nowadays (as of 2009 and 2010) the sophisticated urban look is in. This is the case for both men and women. You are likely to see less and less denim, perhaps even in the younger crowd.

Nowadays, less denim clothing is used and more narrow and fitted clothing is the “in thing” right now. A further description of the sophisticated urban look is divided into men’s and women’s fashion.

Current Fashion-Men’s

The men’s version of the current urban sophisticated look that was popular in the mid-2000s is characterized by the following: Pinstriped dress shirts, black dress pants, and black dress shoes.

Casual dress still is similar as it always was for men though. Most of the time they would either wear sports clothing or they would wear emo or punk-styled attire.

Current Fashion-Women’s

Leggings came back in style as of 2007. You may see them once again now being worn with empire waist skirts and/or long fitted tunic tops, or just like in the 1980s with miniskirts.

For women, skirts and dresses are becoming the norm again. Lycra fitted vest tops also became more popular.

For Both Men and Women

If jeans are still worn the skinny jeans are becoming popular again. You may have heard of these in the 1980s called “tight ankle pants” or similar phrase. You also may see the return of the band T-shirts which people still wear.
